Share and discover the stories of volunteers this National Volunteer Week.
This National Volunteer Week, we're joining the Australian Sports Commission to recognise the vital role volunteers play across sporting organisations and major sporting events through 3 Cheers for Volunteers!
Whether it be the coach at your local football club or the course marshal at Parkrun, volunteers are the most valuable player (MVP) of sport in Australia. They are also vital to the successful running of major sporting events.
At the recent AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 a team of 1,200 dedicated volunteers welcomed teams and fans from across the continent. They helped deliver a world-class event, which was the highest attended AFC Women's Asian Cup in history.
Volunteers will also play an important role at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic Volunteer program has famously been a part of every Olympic and Paralympic Games since the 1948 London Games. At the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic games we saw almost 47,000 volunteers contribute to the success of this event.
The Australian Sports Commission have created a Volunteer map which gives you the opportunity to acknowledge the people who make a difference in your community.
The interactive map showcases hundreds of volunteers and gives Australians a glimpse into the diversity of volunteers involved in sport, from our big cities to outback towns.
