When creating a ROVER account, you will also need to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) to help keep your account secure.
Begin by downloading the free Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once you have downloaded the app, follow the ROVER guide: Create an account and profile to set up your ROVER account. The Microsoft Authenticator app is compatible with:
- iPhones and iPads running iOS 16 or later
- Android phones and tablets running Android 8 or later.
When adding an account to Microsoft Authenticator, ensure you select the Other (Google, Facebook, etc.) option.
Using a different authenticator app or selecting the wrong account type during setup may cause issues when creating a ROVER account.
Troubleshooting multi-factor authentication issues
You will need to reset your Microsoft Authenticator app if you experience any of the following common issues when setting up your ROVER account or signing back in:
- receiving an 8-digit code instead of a 6-digit code
- changing your phone or phone number
- deleting the Microsoft Authenticator app
- removing your ROVER account from the Microsoft Authenticator app
- losing access to the device used for MFA
- being unable to see the QR code during setup
- being unable to generate authentication codes
- being unable to sign in using MFA.
