Since January 2019, the Norfolk Island VET Financial Assistance Initiative has made it easier for Norfolk Island residents to access vocational training.
The initiative reimburses Norfolk Island resident VET students the difference between the course fee they pay and the fee they would pay, for the same course, in another state or territory.
In May 2021, the Australian Government expanded the assistance available under the Initiative, to include eligible apprentices and trainees with the ability to access travel and accommodation assistance, Job Trainer subsidised courses and training scholarships for mature aged students.
The department has partnered with Asuria to deliver the Initiative and provide information to Norfolk Island residents on the financial support now available to them.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive financial assistance students must be:
- 15 years or older
- an Australian Citizen
- a resident of Norfolk Island, and
- not receiving any other Commonwealth or state or territory financial support towards the course (VET Student Loans are not considered financial support under this initiative).

Further information on the Initiative is available in the documents below.
