Progress so far and next steps

Extensive consultation has taken place and is ongoing for the air passenger protection framework, including via several discussion papers and stakeholder workshops and meetings.

Feedback from these consultations is helping inform the Australian Government's decisions on the final design and implementation of the consumer ombuds scheme, including the final Aviation Consumer Protection Charter.

The consumer ombuds scheme is expected to begin operations in 2026 following the passage of the enabling legislation.
