About the project
The Australian Government is delivering a new Residential Aged Care (RAC) facility on Norfolk Island to help older residents remain close to the people, places and community connections that matter most to them.
The new purpose-built facility will be located on the existing Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service (NIHRACS) site and will provide 16 residential aged care beds, increasing local aged care capacity and strengthening health and aged care services on Norfolk Island. It will also include a new mortuary, bulk store and workshop buildings, and an upgrade of site-wide infrastructure including electrical, water supply, communications, wastewater, stormwater, roads and footpaths, as required to support the works.
The project is being developed in close consultation with NIHRACS to ensure the facility reflects the needs, priorities and values of the Norfolk Island community.
Once complete, the facility will provide modern, high-quality accommodation and care, supporting older residents to age with dignity while remaining connected to family, friends and community life on the island.
Project status
The project has reached an important milestone, with the Australian Government referring the proposal to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works (PWC) for consideration.
This referral is an important step in the approval process and provides another opportunity for the Norfolk Island community to have its say on the proposed facility and its design.
The project has now reached the 50 per cent design stage, with updated plans and artist impressions available for community viewing.
Reeves International Pty Ltd, an experienced contractor with expertise in remote and regional infrastructure projects, continues to work closely with NIHRACS and local stakeholders to refine the design and ensure the facility supports the current and future needs of Norfolk Island residents.
As the project progresses through parliamentary and building approval processes, further updates will be provided at key milestones.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works is inviting submissions on the proposed Norfolk Island Residential Aged Care Facility.
This is an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the proposal, its design and how the facility can best support older people, their families and the wider Norfolk Island community.
