Classification

Classification of films, computer games and publications is important to the Australian Government.

We provide operational and policy advice on classification issues to the Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, provide administrative support to the Classification Board and the Classification Review Board, promote compliance, and provide classification training for both boards, industry and government bodies.

The National Classification Scheme is run jointly between the Australian Government and the states and territories. It commenced in 1995 and covers the classification of films, computer games and some publications.
