The Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) is an online publicly searchable database of vehicles that have been approved for provision to the Australian market.

A concessional RAV entry approval is a type of approval available under the Road Vehicle Standards legislation that is suitable for anyone who wants to import or manufacture up to 4 (four) trailers in a 12-month period and have them entered on the RAV.

Trailers generally need a RAV entry before they can be registered for the first time in Australia.

Use this quiz to check whether your trailer may need an approval under the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) before you import it or register it in Australia.

This quiz has been designed to help you:

  • understand if your trailer needs an approval
  • understand if your trailer is eligible for a concessional RAV entry approval
  • check if you can get a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from the department
  • identify the information and documents you may need to provide.

The quiz is a guide only, not an application process. It helps you decide whether you need to apply for an approval from the department.

The quiz includes links to additional information to help you understand the requirements and next steps.
