The Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999 enables the Custodian to:
- request the ACMA issue an emergency call service (ECS) Direction to a carrier, a carriage service provider, or an emergency call person
- request the ACMA to provide information or advice on an ECS matter
- refer a matter to the ACMA for investigation under Part 26 of the Telecommunications Act 1997
