WSI Environment and heritage

The importance of land and history

Respecting the natural environment and cultural heritage is an important part of the Western Sydney International (Nancy‑Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) project.

Planning and construction have carefully considered the environment and heritage at the site and nearby areas, and established measures to minimise impacts.

Aboriginal cultural heritage

The government will continue to work closely with the Aboriginal community to protect and preserve Aboriginal cultural heritage in its delivery of WSI.

More than 70 culturally significant heritage sites were identified by Aboriginal stakeholders consulted through the 2016 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the first stage of construction of WSI.

If you have any questions on the Aboriginal consultation and participation with Aboriginal stakeholders, email WSA.regulatorypolicy@infrastructure.gov.au.

European heritage

Twenty European heritage items were recorded at the airport site, as well as a further 22 heritage items from the surrounding area.
