Western Sydney International Airport Flight paths

The flight paths for the new airport have been carefully considered.

The preliminary flight paths for Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) were assessed for their environmental impact under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Following extensive community consultation, the preliminary flight paths were authorised in June 2025 by the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

You can view the final EIS here.

Airservices Australia is responsible for implementing the flight path design.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) approved the Airspace Change Proposal on 25 November 2025.

The airspace changes and the new flight paths for WSI as well as other airports will be implemented from 9 July 2026.

Measures to address aircraft noise

The Minister has announced the Australian Government's commitment to implement operational measures to mitigate against aircraft noise, particularly at night.

You can read the Minister's release here.

Airservices Australia will be directed to prioritise the use of runway operations to and from the southwest at night where possible (ie. reciprocal runway operations), to minimise aircraft overflight of residential areas.

An Environment Monitoring Program will monitor the impacts of aircraft noise within and near the Greater Blue Mountains area.

A community engagement forum will also be established, to monitor aircraft noise and flight path issues relating to WSI in the early years of its operation.
