Mobile Network Hardening Program Round 2 – Project Noticeboard

Take a look at our project noticeboard to find out if there are potential mobile network resilience improvement projects you may wish to develop into an application for Round 2 of the Mobile Network Hardening Program (MNHP).

Organisation: Byron Shire Council

State: NSW
Location: Mullumbimby

Project description:

Byron Shire Council is looking to install satellite communication devices in council and community locations across the shire to improve community emergency communication capabilities (voice calls, text, internet access) when mobile networks fail during disasters.

Our local project highlights the need and significant opportunities that exist in the Byron Shire and broader Northern Rivers region for mobile network infrastructure providers to improve resilience and redundancy of mobile network infrastructure to support emergency communications as well as day to day connectivity.

Organisation: Ropehill Community Sports Centre Inc

State: QLD
Location: 7 Ropehill Road Upper Tenthill

Project description:

We are a sport ground/community facility in a rural area about 20km from the nearest town. We are looking to install some sort of local area network facility for the centre for public use. It has been classified as a disaster hub for the district to be used for initial gathering and ongoing recovery. It was a black spot until after the Grantham Floods when a Telstra tower was erected and although better it is still patchy and largely nonexistent for users of other carriers at the centre.

The system should allow seamless communication (hopefully via satellite) for all people using the centre and its surrounds that would allow them to make phone calls, send texts and access the internet.
