The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) provide a range of digital television services. Most people living within Australia can access ABC and SBS TV services from broadcast towers or through the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) service.
ABC Television
Almost all Australians can access ABC TV which broadcasts state and national news, weather, emergency warnings, and a mix of entertainment, including sport and regional or rural matters.
The ABC is guided by its Charter, editorial policies and code of practice. Its role is to inform, educate and entertain all Australians, and reflect the diversity of interests in the Australian community through a range of distinctive programs of broad and specialist appeal.
SBS Television
The SBS is Australia's multicultural and multilingual national public broadcaster and draws on international and local programming. About half of its programs are in languages other than English, and most have English subtitles.
The SBS is guided by its Charter, editorial policies and code of practice. Its role is to inform, educate and entertain all Australians while reflecting Australia's multicultural society.
