Australia's Maritime Emissions Reduction National Action Plan (MERNAP) is part of the Australian Government's strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. It identifies approaches to decarbonising our domestic maritime sector, contributing to the decarbonisation of international shipping and supporting the growth of Australia's low and zero carbon energy exports.
The MERNAP has been developed through extensive consultation with energy and maritime stakeholders. It is built on a comprehensive body of knowledge—encompassing the emissions profile of the maritime sector, low carbon fuels and technologies, and relevant government initiatives.
