The Australian Government is interested in whether it can foster more efficient use of private telecommunications infrastructure by relaxing the carrier licence rules that would normally apply.

The Minister has directed the ACMA to have in place arrangements, by 30 April 2015, to issue apparatus licences in the 3.5 GHz frequency band (3400 to 3600 MHz) for the NBN fixed wireless network in the metro fringe of the mainland capital cities. 

Triple Zero is currently a 'voice-only' service that’s been used since the service started in 1961. Part of the review will look at changing technologies and consumer expectations.  

The Australian Government intends to reduce excessive regulation by $1 billion per year. The aim is to boost productivity and give businesses the flexibility to innovate in a globally competitive market.
