The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts thanks the community for taking the time to share their views on proposed changes to Norfolk Island’s fire control laws.

Under the proposed amendments, the current permit system will be extended to give fire control officers greater visibility of planned fires and help them prepare for appropriate action when necessary.

The Australian Government's $400 million regional Precincts and Partnerships Program (rPPP) is open for applications.

The rPPP seeks to support transformative investment in regional, rural and remote Australia based on the principles of unifying regional places, growing economies and serving communities. The rPPP focuses on a partnership approach, bringing together governments, businesses and communities to deliver multi-purpose precincts that are place-based, tailored to local needs and positioned around a shared vision, need or theme.

New laws to support sustainable fisheries management in the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) are now in effect, after extensive consultation with the Cocos (Keeling) Island (CKI) communities.

The updated fisheries ordinances for CKI are fit-for-purpose and best meet the long-term needs of both the marine environment and CKI residents. Included in the new ordinances are updated bag limits, as well as governance and compliance legislation.
