State or Territory: SA

Community Location: Wandearah West

Description of community needs:

Wandearah West, population of 95, has no mobile coverage with some residents resorting to satellite services.

Located 22 kilometres south of Port Pirie, the land within the locality is zoned for agriculture while a strip of land along its coastline is zoned for conservation.

The rugged coastal terrain and farming land make it high risk for bushfires. Communication for the safety of locals for early emergency warnings should be paramount.

Community Location: Walcha

Description of community needs:

Walcha continues to be plagued by poor mobile coverage across the LGA, in almost every location outside the township limits.

It is also not possible to maintain a signal along either of the two major transport routes that traverse the LGA—Thunderbolts Way that connects from Gloucester through to Inverell and Oxley Highway that connects the New England Highway at Bendemeer to the Pacific Highway at Port Macquarie.

While the Walcha LGA is sparsely populated, the lack of proper mobile coverage continues to be a significant risk factor for residents and travelers.

Community Location: Eidsvold West and Eidsvold Theodore Road

Description of community needs:

Eidsvold West and the Eidsvold Theodore Road is a mobile blackspot with no coverage provided by any mobile carrier for a span of more 50 kilometres.

This road sees increased commuter traffic and the lack of coverage and ability to call Triple Zero makes the stretch extremely dangerous for local residents and anyone else travelling along this stretch of road.

Community Location: Many Peaks

Description of community needs:

A tower in the Many Peaks area would not only service the residents who currently have no mobile service at all, it would provide mobile reception to the local police station and the serving police officer.

This area is at risk of flooding and can be cut off for a few days at a time during summer storm season.

Bush fires also pose a real risk in this area and it is imperative that residents are able to stay up to date with emergency warnings and updates.

Community Location: Chesney Vale, Winton Wetlands; Taminick; and Glenrowan

Description of community needs:

Limited to zero mobile coverage on the single road over the Warby Ranges creating safety issues in the event of bushfire, accidents or Emergency Services access as only one road in and out.

Major tourism area in Glenrowan (with new Visitor Information and Ned Kelly Centre), Winton Wetlands and local Glenrowan vignerons such as Baileys, Black Dog Brewery, Taminick etc.

The very limited telecommunications access is frustrating for businesses and visitors alike, plus a safety issue in the event of bush fire, flood or other emergency.
