The Bounty Day procession is held in the World Heritage listed Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area.

Lorraine and I look forward to welcoming community members to Government House on Bounty Day for the traditional refreshment stop.

Bounty Day on Norfolk Island represents the anniversary of the arrival of settlers from Pitcairn Island in 1856.

I trust all will enjoy the day with family and friends. Bounty Day continues to be celebrated as a public holiday on Norfolk Island.

Public notice—Closure of Cascade Pier

Please be advised that site work for the upgrade of Cascade Pier is scheduled to commence shortly.

The Pier will be closed to general public access for the duration of the work. The expected completion and re-opening date is late 2017.

Application of the NSW Public Health Act

Certain provisions of the Public Health Act 2010 (NSW) relating to public health matters and associated provisions of the Public Health Regulation 2012 (NSW) will apply on Norfolk Island from 20 January 2017.

The Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), made the Ordinances on 8 December 2016.

As a long standing nation within the Commonwealth, Australia has evolved into a nation of cultural, linguistic and religious diversity. However, it is what we have in common which unites us. Regardless of whom we are and where we come from we are subject to the Rule of Law and we communicate with each other through the common English language.

Norfolk Island Wholesale Fuel Price Reduced Further

The wholesale price of unleaded petrol and diesel will be reduced after 7 February 2016 when the next delivery is made.

The new wholesale prices will be $1.60 per litre for unleaded petrol and $1.59 per litre for diesel.

The reductions of $0.23 per litre for unleaded petrol and $0.20 for diesel bring the total reduction in wholesale prices since June 2015 to $0.43 and $0.48 respectively.

The Norfolk Island Preparatory Election Ordinance 2016 was made yesterday by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

This Ordinance takes effect from today, 11 March 2016, and applies the New South Wales local government electoral laws, with modifications to cater to Norfolk Island's circumstances. These laws provide a tested and effective framework for the conduct of local elections.

Norfolk Island Regional Council Elections

Today I advise the election for the Norfolk Island Regional Council has concluded and the results declared.

Five councillors have been elected in the following order:

  • Mr Rod Buffett
  • Mr Lisle Snell
  • Mr David Porter
  • Mr John McCoy
  • Ms Robin Adams

In total 942 formal first preference votes were recorded and a quota of 158 votes was required to be elected. Mr Rod Buffett secured sufficient first preference votes to reach the quota and was first elected.
