Purpose
This statement explains how the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts collects, uses and discloses personal information through the Airport Building Control Online (ABCO) system.
This statement supplements the department’s privacy policy and provides information specific to ABCO. The department’s Privacy Policy explains the department’s broader personal information handling practices.
About ABCO
ABCO is an online system that supports the administration of building control activities at federally leased airports under the Airports Act 1996 and the Airports (Building Control) Regulations 2025.
ABCO allows users to submit, manage and track applications and associated information relating to building activities at federally leased airports.
Personal information collected through ABCO
The department may collect the following personal information through ABCO:
- name
- organisation
- position or role
- email address
- telephone number
- user account information
- information contained in applications and related records
- supporting documents and attachments
- correspondence relating to building activity applications.
The department generally collects personal information directly from ABCO users. Personal information may also be provided by a user or included in documents submitted in support of an application.
Why personal information is collected
The department collects personal information through ABCO where it is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, the department’s functions and activities. Personal information collected through ABCO may be used to:
- establish and manage user accounts
- receive, assess and process applications and supporting documents
- support regulatory decisions and building control activities
- communicate with applicants and authorised representatives
- administer requirements under relevant legislation
- undertake related reporting and administrative activities.
The department may use technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, to assist with reviewing, analysing, summarising and reporting on information submitted through ABCO.
If required personal information is not provided, the department may be unable to create or manage a user account, process an application or perform associated regulatory functions.
Disclosure of personal information
The department may disclose personal information collected through ABCO to:
- Airport Lessee Companies for purposes associated with the administration of building activities at federally leased airports
- Airport Building Controllers and service providers for purposes associated with assessing, approving or certifying building activities
- the Australian Bureau of Statistics where statutory reporting requirements apply
- other parties where authorised or required by law.
The department will not otherwise use or disclose personal information except as authorised or required by law.
