We're seeking feedback on the credit card ban for online wagering.
Why we want your input

The Interactive Gambling Amendment (Credit and Other Measures) Act 2023(Credit and Other Measures Act) started on 11 June 2024. It amended the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) to:
- Ban Australian licensed wagering services from accepting payments made by credit cards, credit related products such as digital wallets, and digital currency such as cryptocurrency. This ban applies to betting services but not lotteries.
- Create criminal and financial penalties for Australian licenced wagering services that knowingly break the rules.
- Give the Australian Communications and Media Authority greater powers to enforce the ban and existing offences under the Act.
- Update related parts of the legislation and remove provisions that are no longer needed.
Section 4 of the Credit and Other Measures Act sets out the legislative basis, scope and timing of the review.
You can provide feedback on whether:
- the ban on using credit cards and digital currency under Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Credit and Other Measures Act is effective
- new products or payment methods could be used to get around the credit card ban for online wagering.
Please include examples in your submission if you have them.
