Investing in media literacy

Australia’s first National Media Literacy Strategy gets underway.

Following a competitive tender process, we have engaged Whereto Research to partner with us and help co-design the country’s first National Media Literacy Strategy, in partnership with the University of Melbourne.

Media literacy is the ability to understand and engage with news and media, build skills to spot false or misleading content online, understand the intent behind media messages and think critically about the information seen every day.

The Strategy will be developed in consultation with academic, industry and community stakeholders and will consider the impacts of emerging technologies such as AI, as well as identify vulnerable groups most in need of targeted media literacy initiatives.

This investment will pave the way for government to implement evidence-based initiatives to further support Australians in navigating the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly complex and changing digital world.
