Hexham Straight Widening project complete

The major road infrastructure project in the Hunter region is complete.

Local and visiting motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in the Hunter Valley region of NSW can now enjoy smoother travel and improved safety on the Hexham Straight.

The completed project includes an increase to 3 lanes of travel in each direction and a higher speed limit, allowing for better traffic flow. It also includes new twin bridges over Ironbark Creek, and other upgrades including a new U-turn facility, improved pedestrian crossings and bus stops.

All lanes are now open to traffic, and finishing works will see parking and seating upgrades to the reserve along the Hunter River at Foreshore Park and installation of information signage about the Indigenous cultural heritage of the area.

The works were supported with over $1.79 billion in Australian Government funding under the broader M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace project.
