A new bridge and road extension gives Werribee and Wyndham drivers a safer, more reliable connection to the Princes Freeway.
The $194 million Ison Road Project is open to traffic, 3 months ahead of schedule. The upgrades will improve access to jobs and services and make it safer and easier for people to walk, cycle and drive.
The completed works include a new $114 million bridge over the Melbourne–Geelong rail line, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments.
The new overpass connects to a new 1.3 km, 4-lane road extension linking Ison Road to Geelong Road and the Princes Freeway interchange. The $80 million road extension, delivered by Big Builds on behalf of Wyndham City Council, includes walking and cycling paths.
More than 29,000 trips a day are expected to use the new link by 2036.
Finishing works on the Ison Road project, including landscaping, lighting and final asphalting, will continue to the end of 2026.
The project will also support future works, including a new intersection at Ison Road and Werribee Main Road and a new roundabout on the Princes Freeway city-bound off-ramp. Construction on these works is due to start in early 2027.
The nearby Galvin Road level crossing is now permanently closed, with traffic being redirected to the overpass.
