Community Wi-Fi helps close the digital inclusion gap

Free Wi-Fi connectivity is being rolled out in up to 53 remote communities across Australia, under the First Nations Community Wi-Fi program.

Free Wi-Fi connectivity will help people in remote communities to access essential services like healthcare, education and training, and will promote better cultural and community connection.

The program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in participating more fully in digital life and stay connected with family, services and opportunities.

This program builds on the success of the NBN Community Wi-Fi Program which has already delivered free community Wi-Fi to 23 remote communities in Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The programs are part of the Government’s $68 million investment in First Nations digital inclusion measures and aim to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities by providing accessible, place based and culturally safe solutions that are tailored to the needs of individual communities.
