Demand for fixed-line broadband

The BCAR’s Demand for fixed-line broadband in Australia working paper forecasts that by 2026 the average household will demand 420 gigabytes (GB) of data each month, which is more than four times as much as demand in 2016.

Key findings show that despite rapid growth in the demand for data in Australia, the rollout of the National Broadband Network should provide sufficient bandwidth capacity for Australian households, both now and over the decade to 2026.

This is the first of an annual series which will assess the impact of factors such as shifting demographics and changes in technology on data and bandwidth needs as Australians continue to embrace new digital technologies.
