2025 Australian Public Service Employee Census Results

We have released our 2025 Census results which shows strong job satisfaction and performance against the broader APS.

The APS Employee Census is an annual staff survey that collects employee experience and sentiments. The insights gathered help the department understand workforce trends and inform actions across a wide range of areas, from wellbeing, innovation, communication, leadership and culture. This year, the Census was open to all APS staff between May 5 and June 6.

We had a high response rate, with 89% of our staff participating, meaning we have access to a comprehensive dataset that provides a reliable reflection of the attitudes and views of the majority of our staff.

Overall, our Census results demonstrate stability, resilience and consistency, with most results remaining steady or improving slightly compared to last year. We have seen improvements in enabling innovation, wellbeing and support and immediate supervisor leadership. We have also seen a reduction in workplace stress and burnout.

The results of the Census enable us to identify areas of strong performance, opportunities for focus, and help track how we are progressing on organisational strategies, initiatives and workplace culture.

Our 2025 Action Plan will be released in November 2025 and will outline the actions we will take to strive to be a better workplace than what we already are.
