Draft Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG) Guidelines

Guidelines will enable community to have more of a say on the operations, development and impact of airports.

Why we want your input

The Aviation White Paper – Towards 2050 identified a need to strengthen existing Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG) Guidelines (Initiative #38) to enable greater community input into work programs, increase community involvement in meetings and increase the flow of information to the community from CACG meetings. New CACG Guidelines will improve the functionality of these forums.

How you can voice your opinion

You can share your opinion by providing a submission and uploading it using the ‘Have your say’ button below. Submissions and questions can also be provided by email to: AVPOL@infrastructure.gov.au

What will be the outcome of this consultation?

Your submission will help inform the finalised CACG Guidelines, to be released after this consultation period, leading to better community engagement options.

The Issue

The Aviation White Paper – Towards 2050 identified a need to strengthen existing CACG Guidelines (Initiative #38) to enable greater community input into work programs, increase community involvement in meetings and increase the flow of information to the community from CACG meetings.

New Draft CACG Guidelines have now been developed, considering the Aviation White Paper’s findings and building on the CACG Guidelines last revised in November 2016. Specifically, the Draft CACG Guidelines have been updated to include:

  • Clearer guidance on the timing of meetings, expected transparency and the membership structure of CACGs
  • Clearer guidance on how airport operators should support seeking new members and promoting CACGs
  • A dedicated section on reporting requirements and engagement with the community
  • Minor changes to the ‘purpose’ of CACGs – now phrased as an opportunity for engagement with community alongside the requirements of the Airports Act 1996

We are seeking your feedback on the new Draft Guidelines to ensure they are relevant and meet the needs of community.
