We are seeking feedback on Flying Considerately guidance to provide general aviation operators with realistic and measured advice on noise-awareness and flying practices to minimise all impacts of general aviation.
Why we want your input
The Aviation White Paper—Towards 2050 identified a need for Flying Considerately guidance that would assist general aviation pilots on minimising noise impacts in residentials areas. The guidance will aim to embed considerate flying behaviours across the GA sector. By participating in this consultation, you will have the opportunity to influence a guidance framework that is practical, aspirational, and grounded in collaboration rather than regulation. How you can voice your opinion
You can share your opinion by providing a submission and uploading it using the ‘Have your say’ button below. Submissions and questions can also be provided by email to: AVPOL@infrastructure.gov.au.What will be the outcome of this consultation?
Your submission will help inform the finalised Flying Considerately guidance, to be released after this consultation period. Industry and community engagement throughout the consultation process will be critical in ensuring the guidance is practical, proportionate, and capable of driving meaningful improvements without imposing administrative and regulatory burden to the GA sector. The Issue
Under Initiative 34 of the Aviation White Paper, the Australian Government is developing guidance to pilots on 'Flying Considerately' to minimise noise impacts in residential areas, when operating under visual flight rules or outside of controlled airspace.
The guidance will offer practical, voluntary measures for pilots and aircraft operators flying under Visual Flight Rules to help reduce the noise impacts of general aviation on communities, while supporting the growth and long-term sustainability of the sector.
The guidance will aim to:
- Promote consistency in how noise impacts are minimised across different regions
- Leverage emerging technologies to assist operators and communities with voluntary monitoring and improved flight planning
- Strengthen collaboration between government, operators, and communities, building mutual understanding and shared responsibility
- Work alongside existing regulatory frameworks without imposing unnecessary administrative burdens on pilots or operators.
We are seeking your views on the draft Flying Considerately guidance to ensure the final guidance is practical, reflects aviation realities, and aligns with the needs of both the aviation community and the public.
