Guide to component type approvals

Date published:

This guide describes what component type approvals are and who can apply for them.

It includes information on how to apply, the eligibility criteria, assessment process and time frame for deciding an application.

You'll also find out what to do if you are applying for a component type approval for a component covered by a CRN or sub-assembly covered by a SARN registered in the Road Vehicle Certification System (RVCS).

The guide also details how to use results of testing from an approved testing facility (or equivalent UN approval) to demonstrate compliance with applicable national road vehicle standards in your component type approval application.

The appendices cover:

  • the information you need to include in an application
  • what a quality management system (QMS) should contain
  • summary of measures and actions used to demonstrate control in a QMS
  • conditions applying to a component type approval, and
  • how to vary an approval.
