Further detail sought on issues raised during in-person consultations.
The Reviewers want to hear your feedback on concerns raised by stakeholders during consultations so far, on the independent review (the Review) of the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme and the Bass Strait Passenger Vehicle Equalisation Scheme. This feedback will play a key role in the development of the final report to government in 2026.
The Review will contribute to serving the best interests of Tasmanian businesses and communities by reducing administrative burden and enabling more efficient shipping.
It will help ensure that the schemes remain fit-for-purpose and deliver for Tasmanians into the future while supporting fair and sustainable access to mainland markets.
Mr David Parmeter and Dr Jenny Gordon are co-chairs of the independent review, and recently conducted consultation sessions throughout Tasmania and Melbourne. A number of concerns were raised by stakeholders during these sessions, including the rates, eligibility for either scheme, complexity, and competition.
The Reviewers are seeking more detail on the issues raised during these consultations as well as the recent Senate Select Committee on the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme.
Submissions close 23:59pm (AEDT)on 30 January 2026.
