Project summary

Council has leveraged a number of projects from the 2018/19 approved budget (solar installation, Public Wi-Fi and AV integration projects, and Digital Wayfinding signage) to gain funding towards the development and launch of an mCommerce solution for Gawler.

The Gawler App is now available in both Apple and Android formats and is a free download - Just search GAWLER in your store. The App was launched in February 2020 and is continuing to improve the user interface following feedback from users.

The challenge

Gawler had a small number of businesses who were leveraging the online shopping environment to create a more sustainable or profitable business. Many local businesses were challenged in creating online platforms for their business due to cost, resourcing, skill sets etc.  Council sort, as part of its economic development focus, to provide a collaborative app that could support multiple businesses and multiple business models.

Solution

The Gawler App was aiming to provide a user friendly App for Smartphones that both Council and local Gawler Businesses could use as a shopfront. The App was designed to reskin to each businesses look and feel as you enter their store, provide special offer prompts, vouchers as push notifications to potential customers and also provide visitor information and services for people visiting our town.

Benefits

The project will allow numerous businesses to have an online shopfront with their own branding look and feel for a small monthly fee. Advertising is also available on the App.

Council is promoting the App to the community as a one stop shop for Gawler Locals and is promoting it to visitors to the region through our Visitor Information Centre.
