Australia is a significant contributor to global radiocommunications and has a proud heritage in the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), including holding chairing roles in several ITU-R Study Group and Working Party meetings. Australia invented WiFi technology and is also a leader in radio science, with significant local ventures including CSIRO’s Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder.

Australia is committed to establishing new globally harmonised radiofrequency spectrum allocations, identifications and coordination arrangements in the mobile phone, satellite, aeronautical, maritime, scientific, defence and transport sectors.

Australia will continue to support international cooperation on radiocommunications that enables regulatory certainty and interoperable international technology standards for the rational and efficient use of radio spectrum and satellite orbit resources.
