Water Infrastructure Projects

Through the capital component of the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (the fund) and the National Water Infrastructure Loan Facility (the loan facility), the Australian Government is providing funding to fast track water infrastructure construction in partnership with the state and territory governments.

Funding from the fund is provided to state and territory governments through bilateral schedules to the National Partnership for the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund – Capital Component in accordance with the Federal Financial Relations Act 2009. To access the bilateral schedules for each state, please refer to the Council on Financial Relations National Partnerships—Environment.

Funding is committed to the following water infrastructure projects.

Queensland Government, through the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy

South Australian Government, through the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA)

  • Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme (NAIS)—Funding of $45.6 million ex GST
  • Coolanie Water Scheme (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $715,000 ex GST
  • McLaren Vale Water Storage (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $2.5 million ex GST

Tasmanian Government, through the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment

  • Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme—Funding of up to $25.27 million ex GST
  • Tasmanian Irrigation Tranche III: Phase One (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $100 million ex GST

Victorian Government, through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning

  • Sunraysia Modernisation Project 2—Funding of up to $3.025 million ex GST
  • Macalister Irrigation District Modernisation Project Phase 1B—Funding of $20 million ex GST
  • South West Loddon Rural Water Supply Project—Funding of $20 million ex GST
  • Mitiamo and District Reticulated Water Supply Project (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $14.5 million ex GST
  • East Grampians Water Supply Project (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $32 million ex GST
  • Macalister Irrigation District Modernisation Project Phase 2 (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $31.3 million ex GST

Western Australian Government, through the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development

  • Myalup-Wellington Project (pending bilateral schedule agreement)—Funding of up to $140 million ex GST

Water Infrastructure Commitments

The Australian Government has committed funding to the following projects subject to completion of business cases, final approvals and matching funding commitments from state governments.

New South Wales Government, through the Department of Industry

  • Dungowan Dam—Commitment of up to $75 million ex GST

Queensland Government, through the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy

Western Australian Government, through the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development

  • Southern Forests Irrigation Scheme—Commitment of up to $39.7 million ex GST
