Monitoring of trials
Trials of future land transport technologies help us to better understand how they operate in practice, providing valuable information for future approaches to policy, regulation, investment and operations. The Office of Future Transport Technology is monitoring the progress of trials and demonstrations taking place across Australia. A list of all trials is available on the Austroads website.
Organisations who wish to run trials of connected and automated vehicles need permission to do so from relevant state, territory and Commonwealth government agencies. The National Transport Commission (NTC) and Austroads have developed guidelines for trials of automated vehicles in Australia, which support nationally consistent and safe trials of automated vehicles on Australian roads. The NTC also provides information on how to set up trials of Automated Vehicles in Australia.
Austroads is currently developing guidance to support the Consistent evaluation and reporting of automated vehicle trials. The project is intended to support consistent automated vehicle trial evaluation and reporting, knowledge-sharing and results comparison.
