COVID-19 is having unprecedented effects on communities and industries across Australia.
Its onset has also impacted the consultations for the Classification Review, as stakeholders are rightly prioritising their response to the pandemic.
For this reason, the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts has agreed to extend the reporting date for the review from 30 April to 31 May 2020.
While the review is well underway, this extension will ensure that stakeholders are appropriately consulted on this important review of Australia's classification framework.
The review is looking at ways to develop a modern framework for classification that reflects today's digital environment and meets the needs of industry, while continuing to provide appropriate information and protections for Australians.
The review covers content delivery platforms including broadcasting services, online stores and services, cinema releases and physical media (boxed video games and DVDs), and is also considering updates to the National Classification Code and classification guidelines.
Independent expert, Mr Neville Stevens AO, is leading the review.
