Project summary

Council has partnered with the Queensland University of Technology to deliver ‘Community-focused smart technologies to enhance flood resilience in high risk areas’ as a Smart Cities initiative. The project will add future-focused value to Council’s current infrastructure planning, asset management and floodplain management by exploring a number of initiatives within the Slacks and Scrubby Creek catchment.

The challenge

To improve flood risk management outcomes, in consideration of other services provided by Logan City Council – leading to improved efficiency, reliability and operational attributes.

The project will implement and test the use of digital engineering and smart technologies to improve asset and flood monitoring in the Slacks and Scrubby Creek catchment by integrating data sources, asset information and modelling for river, creek flooding.

An advanced warning system of this nature has never been attempted in the City of Logan and the approach developed through this project could be rolled out across other catchments in the future.
