Airport Watch Update 1: Airport Watch Trial Launch at Adelaide Airport

The Airport Watch Trial was launched at Adelaide Airport on Monday 19 April 2010 by OTS Executive Director, Mr Paul Retter; AFP Assistant Police Commissioner and Aviation National Manager, Mr Shane Connelly; and Adelaide Airport General Manager of Operations, Mr Vince Scanlon.

The launch was attended by the Mayor of the City of West Torrens CR John Trainer JP, representatives from a number of Commonwealth agencies, South Australia Police, various airlines, businesses that operate within the Adelaide Airport precinct and local media.

Mr Retter addressed the group and highlighted the importance of working with industry to ensure the success of a preventive security initiative such as Airport Watch to strengthen the security regime in place at Adelaide Airport.

A suite of Airport Watch supporting materials, which was developed in conjunction with the AFP and the Adelaide Airport community, was distributed to assist the airport community to remain vigilant and to identify and report suspicious activities.

The Airport Watch Trial will conclude on 21 May 2010 and, subject to its findings, an Airport Watch framework will be used as a template for similar preventive security initiatives at other Australian airports. Adelaide Airport has advised its intention to continue with Airport Watch after the trial evaluation period has ended.
