Remote Aerodrome Safety Program

The Remote Aerodrome Safety Program (RASP) is a national program aimed at assisting the upgrade of aerodromes in remote and isolated communities to facilitate the delivery of essential goods and non-commercial air services including health care.

The focus of the program is on improving the safety and accessibility of aerodromes. Funding is available for the repair and upgrade of runway surfaces, for safety equipment such as runway lighting and navigation aids, and for infrastructure such as animal proof fences. The scheme does not cover works that involve terminals, hangars, buildings or on-airport commercial developments.

The Australian Government will provide matching funding toward the cost of each approved project, with the balance generally being met by the applicant or a third party on behalf of the applicant such as a state government.

Project applications are called for annually and are assessed by a panel of relevant Australian Government agencies and national stakeholder organisations for recommendation to, and approval by, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP.

Round 4 of the program is now open for applications and will close on Friday 9 April 2010.

Minister Albanese announced the opening of Round 4 of RASP on 17 February 2010.
