The Australian Explosives Transport Code

New 3rd edition Australian Explosives Code

On 3 April 2009, the Workplace Relations Ministers Council (WRMC) endorsed the publication of the third edition of the Australian Code for the Transport of Explosives by Road and Rail (AEC 3).

Jurisdictions have advised their intention to introduce the revised code (AEC 3) by 30 June 2009, with full implementation to commence on 31 December 2009.

Hard copies of the 3rd edition Australian Explosives Code should be available by 30 June 2009. Details will be listed on the above web site as soon as printing arrangements are finalised.

Current 2nd edition Australian Explosives Code

Currently, the second edition of the Australian Code for the Transport of Explosives by Road and Rail (AEC 2), applies in all states and territories.

Federal Explosives Ordnance

The Department of Defence has the legislative responsibility for transport, storage and handling of federal explosives ordnance in accordance with the Explosives Act 1961 and the Explosives Transport Regulations 2002. The day to day administration of this legislation has been delegated by the Minister for Defence to the Commander Joint Logisitics, who is the Competent Authority for explosives ordnance.
