Application for Approval to Import a Vehicle

It is strongly recommended that you do not ship your vehicle until after you receive your Import Approval.

  • Carefully read the Importing Vehicles to Australia information on this website before completing this application.
  • Any missing documents or incomplete applications will delay the issuing Import Approval. You will need an Import Approval to take delivery of your vehicle from the Australian Port of entry.
  • A fee of $50.00 must accompany this application. Details of how to make payment are on the Application Form.

Print out the relevant form and complete all the relevant fields and return to the Vehicle Safety Standards team using one of the options at the end of the form.

Please Note:

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport is collecting the information in these forms, and in the documentation required to be supplied in addition to these forms (if any), in order to assess your application for an approval to import a road vehicle. This collection is authorised under the Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989. The Department of Infrastructure and Transport usually gives some or all of this information to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, State and Territory vehicle registration authorities, policing agencies, and fair trading agencies.
