Operational Pilot of Electronic Work Diaries
State and territory legislation requires many heavy vehicle drivers to keep a written work diary, recording hours of work and rest.
The Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Transport is participating as a steering committee member in a New South Wales led pilot of Electronic Work Diaries (EWD). Road and police agencies from across Australia, transport industry associations and heavy vehicle operators are also participating in the pilot.
The Pilot will further inform the national policy and draft specification for EWDs and progress the development of guidelines for the approval and use of EWDs. The operational phase of the Pilot is scheduled to conclude by December 2012 with recommendations to amend legislation and establish entities to be finalised in 2013.
The Pilot is being conducted by Transport Certification Australia on behalf of New South Wales Roads and Maritime Services.
