Our current priorities

1. Providing advice to Parliamentary Secretary the Hon Gary Gray AO MP and the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP;

2. The East Kimberley Development Package, is a $195 million package to support economic development in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia through investment in social and common use infrastructure. The investments being made under the Package were launched by the Prime Minister on 3 July 2009;

3. The Government response to the Northern Australia Land and Water Taskforce Report;

4. The ONA's Townsville and Darwin offices provide local knowledge and contacts and also work on the implementation of a series of Australian Government regional development programs; and

5. Developing the long term strategic directions of the ONA.

   1. Key priorities here include:
      • Establishing networks with other government agencies;
      • Building relationships with stakeholders in northern Australia; and
      • Developing a better understanding of sustainable development issues and priorities in northern Australia and how they are best addressed.
   2. Building the evidence base and knowledge framework.

   3. Strengthening alignment of Commonwealth Government and line agencies initiatives that impact on the northern Australia.
