Office of Northern Australia

The Government has established the Office of Northern Australia (ONA) to facilitate the provision of high level policy advice on sustainable development issues affecting northern Australia.

Northern Australia is currently defined to include that part of Australia north of the Tropic of Capricorn.

ONA will provide advice to the Government about priorities, strategies that promote sustainable development and barriers impeding the development of significant initiatives in northern Australia.

ONA will enable better coordination across the Government and between governments, businesses and communities on issues affecting sustainable development in northern Australia. ONA will work closely with State and Territory Governments to ensure greater levels of cooperation, to identify synergies across jurisdictions and work to create improved avenues for access to the Commonwealth Government.
