The National Plan to Combat Pollution of the Sea by Oil and other Hazardous and Noxious Substances (The National Plan)
The Department is a member of the National Plan Management Committee . The National Plan is an integrated arrangement between the Federal, State and Northern Territory Governments and industry which enables effective response to marine pollution incidents.
The aim of the National Plan is to protect the natural and built environments of Australia's marine and foreshore zones from the adverse effects of oil and other noxious or hazardous substances spilt into the marine environment. It also aims to minimise those effects where protection is not possible.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) manages the National Plan. Further information can be found at the AMSA website.
