Supplementary funding to South Australian councils for local roads

On 8 May 2007, the Australian Government announced that South Australia's local governing bodies will receive an estimated $57 million in supplementary local road funding over the period 2007-08 to 2010-11. This funding addresses South Australian local government's disadvantage under the inter-jurisdictional distribution of the local road component of the Financial Assistance Grants.

The supplementary local road funding is in addition to the Australian Government funding South Australian local governing bodies receive under Financial Assistance Grants and Roads to Recovery.

Supplementary local road funding is allocated to South Australian local governing bodies in accordance with the recommendations of the South Australian Local Government Grants Commission. In line with the allocation of local road Financial Assistance Grants in South Australia, eighty five per cent of the supplementary funding is allocated to South Australian local governing bodies in accordance with their share of local road Financial Assistance Grants, while the remainder of the funding is allocated to special local road projects.

In 2009-10 South Australian local governing bodies will receive $14.82 million in supplementary local road funding.
