In the development of the National Urban Policy, the Australian Government released a discussion paper and accompanying background and research paper.
Discussion Paper
|
Our Cities—building a productive, sustainable and liveable future, the discussion paper for the National Urban Policy, was released in December 2010. It set out the Australian Government's thinking on a national approach to urban development and the challenges we must address for our cities to become more productive, sustainable and liveable. The purpose of the discussion paper was to frame the Australian Government's policy approach to cities as the basis for a National Urban Policy, released in May 2011.

Background and Research Paper
|
Our Cities—the challenge of change accompanies the discussion paper and was also released in December 2010. It describes in more detail the various aspects of productivity, sustainability and liveability as they relate to how our cities are developing. It also considers the issues raised in the State of Australian Cities 2010 report. The paper presents the options the Australian government considered in preparation for a national approach to improve the wellbeing and prosperity of communities within our cities.
