Building Australia Fund Projects
The Australian Government established the Building Australia Fund to fund critical infrastructure in the transport, communications, water and energy sectors of the economy. The Nation-building Funds Act 2008 was enacted on 18 December 2008.
Following the 2008 Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting, Infrastructure Australia was asked to conduct a National Infrastructure Audit and to develop and maintain an Infrastructure Priority List, to enable the Australian Government to make decisions on priority projects that will advance Australias nation building agenda.
The Australian Government considered Infrastructure Australias Priority List in determining 2009–10 Budget outcomes.
In the 2009–10 Budget the Australian Government committed $8.5 billion to projects for road, rail and port infrastructure. Of this over $7.8 billion is to be funded through the Building Australia Fund.
