Major Infrastructure Projects

The Australian Government is committing $8.5 billion to 14 nationally significant major infrastructure projects.

This section contains information on projects announced in the 2009–10 Budget as part of Nation Building Plan for the Future. Projects are funded from the Building Australia Fund (BAF) and non BAF appropriations.

  • The Australian Government established the Building Australia Fund to fund critical infrastructure in the transport, communications, water and energy sectors of the economy. The Nation-building Funds Act 2008 was enacted on 18 December 2008.

  • The Australian Government announced three major cities projects in the 2009–10 Budget with a focus on public transport links for our major cities.
