Major Infrastructure Projects

The Australian Government is committing $8.5 billion to 15 nationally significant infrastructure projects from 2008-09 to 2013-14.

This section contains information on projects announced in the 2009-10 Budget as part of Nation Building for the Future. Projects are funded from the Building Australia Fund (BAF) and non BAF appropriations.

  • The Australian Government established the Building Australia Fund to fund critical infrastructure in the transport, communications, water and energy sectors of the economy. The Nation-building Funds Act 2008 was enacted on 18 December 2008.

  • The Australian Government announced three major cities projects in the 2009-10 Budget with a focus on public transport links for our major cities.
