Major Infrastructure Projects

The Australian Government is committing $8.5 billion to 14 nationally significant major infrastructure projects.

This section contains information on projects announced in the 2009–10 Budget as part of Nation Building Plan for the Future and further project announcements that form part of the 2012–13 Budget. Projects are funded from the Building Australia Fund (BAF) and non BAF appropriations.

  • The Australian Government established the Building Australia Fund to fund critical infrastructure in the transport, communications, water and energy sectors of the economy. The Nation-building Funds Act 2008 was enacted on 18 December 2008.

  • The Australian Government is funding two major cities projects with a focus on public transport links for our major cities.
