$200 million will go to strengthening aviation security through new and improved security technologies, increased policing at airports, enhanced security procedures, and strengthened international cooperation. The package will further strengthen Australias world-class aviation security regime.

The Government has released of a landmark report on northern Australia, by an independent expert panel, on opportunities for sustainable development in the north, finding that developing northern Australia will require strategic focus, national leadership and close collaboration between governments.

Road crashes impose large human and financial costs on society and substantial investments are made in infrastructure and safety programs to reduce road trauma. The social cost of road crashes in 2006 was an estimated $17.85 billion.
