Denmark and surrounding communities in Western Australia will have access to a focal point for next month's Regional Success Workshop with the appointment of Ms Kath Lymon as the regional coordinator.

Ms Lymon is from a small rural community near Albany and has wide-ranging experience with community development projects.

The workshop in Denmark, to be held on 11 August 2000, will mark the beginning of an Australia-wide research program for the Regional Women's Advisory Council. This Council reports directly to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson.

"We are privileged that Mr Anderson will be attending the workshop," the Western Australia member of the Regional Women's Advisory Council, Sue Middleton, said today.

"In addition, representatives from federal, state and local government agencies, members of the Regional Women's Advisory Council and the Regional and Rural Women's Unit in the Department of Transport and Regional Services, Canberra also will attend the workshop in Denmark to listen to what community leaders have to say," Ms Middleton said.

"Communities should take the opportunity to provide input through the Regional Success Workshops, the outcomes of which will contribute to the regular advice the Council provides to Mr Anderson.

"These workshops, which include one in each state and the Northern Territory until June 2001, will provide an opportunity for government to hear first hand from those communities that are adapting to the rapid pace of change.

"They also will provide a forum to share information about the factors assisting communities to create a future for themselves, and explore how these factors can be applied in other communities. The workshops also will help identify the barriers to success that need to be overcome," Ms Middleton said.

Inquiries from people interested in attending the workshop in Denmark should be directed to Kath Lymon on 08 9853 2275 (phone and fax) or 0417 923 031 (mobile) or on e-mail kathl@comswest.net.au Expressions of interest close on Friday July 21.
