Review of the Airports Building Control and Environment Protection Regulations
This discussion paper [
PDF: 740 KB] is the first stage of a comprehensive review of the regulatory framework for building activities and environment protection at the 19 leased federal airports.
The paper has been prepared by the Airports Branch of the Department of Infrastructure and Transport as the first stage of a review of:
- the Airports (Building Control) Regulations 1996 (the ABCR) and
- the Airports (Environment Protection) Regulations 1997 (the AEPR).
Both sets of regulations are made under the Airports Act 1996 (the Act). These regulations and the Act can be found at the Australian Government’s Comlaw website.
The Department seeks comments on the proposed amendments in this paper to learn about how they might affect businesses operating on airport sites, the local community and surrounding State and local governments.

High speed rail phase 2 report
The High speed rail study phase 2 report was released on 11 April 2013.
The report notes a range of technical, logistical, legal, financial and environmental issues that need to be considered and as part of this, a comprehensive schedule of consultations and briefings, including with industry, community groups and local government will be undertaken by the Department. Public feedback on the report is also welcome and will be accepted until 30 June 2013.

Public Consultation of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 and Regulations
The Department of Infrastructure and Transport is undertaking a public consultation process on the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA) and Regulations to consider its currency and whether it remains effective and efficient. Any interested organisations or individuals are invited to consider the attached consultation paper released on 16 May to assist respondents with their submissions.
The closing date for submissions to be received at the Department of Infrastructure and Transport is close of business Friday 21 June 2013.
Consultation workshops will be held in Sydney (24 May), Melbourne (2 June) and Perth (4 June), and Brisbane (12 June). Further detail on the Consultation Process and how to register for a workshop can be found at
Review of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport
The 2012 Transport Standards review Issues Paper is now available for download. This review will be undertaken by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport in consultation with the Accessible Public Transport Jurisdictional Committee, the Accessible Public Transport National Advisory Committee, the Aviation Access Working Group and the Attorney-General's Department. The Department of Infrastructure and Transport will also be conducting public consultation sessions in each state and territory, beginning on 23 April in Canberra and continuing around Australia throughout May, June and July.
Written submissions are sought by 26 April 2013. Participants should register their interest in attending a public consultation by email or mail to the Disabilities Transport Access Secretariat.
