Structure of the Report
PART 1 SECRETARYS OVERVIEW In Part 1 on the report the Secretary, Ken Matthews, summarises the significant issues and developments affecting the Department during 19992000 and briefly discusses performance and his outlook for 200001. |

PART 2 REPORT ON PERFORMANCE To improve the quality of performance information available to Senators and Members each of the business groups (divisions) of the Department reports on their contributions to the portfolio outcome, 19992000 highlights, service performance, environmental performance and performance achieved against each of the relevant output activities detailed in the 1999-2000 Portfolio Budget Statements (www.dotars.gov.au/department/statements/1999_2000/budget/index.aspx) and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements (www.dotars.gov.au/department/statements/1999_2000/paes/index.aspx). |

PART 3 MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY Part 3 of the report details the Departments operational structure and includes corporate governance, portfolio structure, management of human resources, external scrutiny, consultancy services and purchasing policies. |

PART 4 FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE Part 4 of the report provides a general financial discussion, resource summary tables and a complete set of the Departments audited financial statements. |
This structure of this report differs from that of previous Departmental annual reports. New requirements (issued by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet) allow the Department to report performance in 19992000 in a new fashion under the outcomes and outputs framework. The new format enables many of the issues placed in appendixes in previous reports to be moved to the body of the report to better reflect the corporate and whole-of-department activities undertaken.
